What makes interior design on the Costa Brava different
Most of the interior design requests we receive from Begur, Platja d'Aro, Palafrugell or Llafranc are not for a main home. They are for a second home, and that changes the brief. The owner does not live there, is often not around during the works, and the house has to look after itself for much of the year.
In practice that means specific choices. Materials that cope with salt air and sea humidity without looking tired after two seasons. Textiles and finishes that survive months shut up without ventilation. Furniture chosen so that a house closed from November to March opens in spring without anything needing repair.
It also changes the process: the project has to be approvable from abroad. Moodboards that work over a video call, samples sent by courier and one site visit at handover. Studios that regularly work on the coast already run this way; the others improvise.
Holiday-rental interiors: design with a revenue line
A holiday rental is not designed like your own home. Here interior design has a measurable job: better listing photos and less maintenance between stays.
Photos matter more than people expect. A living room that reads well in a cover image fills more of the calendar than a more comfortable one that photographs badly. So rental projects prioritise light, depth and a clear focal point in every room.
Durability is the other half. Protected corners, tables that do not mark, machine-washable fabrics, and an inventory planned so that replacing a broken piece means buying the same item again, not redesigning the room. None of this shows in the photo, but you notice it by the third season.
